Newaz is a Hard Rock band deeply influenced by Blues, Punk, and Grunge. The journey began in 1990 when the band VAMPIRES, led by singer and guitarist Satish Sthapit, disbanded. Determined to continue their musical pursuits, the remaining members decided to form a new band and participate in a music competition in Kathmandu. Thus, NEWAZ was born—a name that translates to "Nepali Awaz" (Nepali Voice) and also honors the Newari community.

The band became a cornerstone of Nepal's rock scene, with its first phase spanning from 1990 to 1996. After a long hiatus, Newaz released its second album in 2008 and has been consistently active since 2011. The current lineup features Satish on vocals and guitar, Roshan on bass, Anish on drums, and Nishant on the organ.
