Phosphenes

Phosphenes is an indie band from Kathmandu, Nepal, formed by Abhi Pokhrel and Prajwal Aryal in 2016. Their music, like the word ‘phosphene’, evokes a sense of seeing light with closed eyes, offering soulful melodies and soothing ballads that transport listeners into a trance-like state.

The band’s journey began with the song ‘Dust’ in 2016, which quickly became popular on Spotify. Building on this success, they released their first EP, ‘Know This Time’, in 2018, featuring four songs that blend folk, alternative pop, and rock. This unique style has garnered a passionate following.

Among their fan favorites are ‘Dust’ and ‘I Will Be Gone’. Phosphenes have become a prominent part of Kathmandu’s vibrant music scene, attracting a growing crowd with each performance. Their music video for ‘Yestai Nai Hola’, released in January 2022, became a viral sensation in Nepal, amassing over 2 million views.

Their album ‘Sullen Days’, launched in 2022, showcases a diverse range of genres, creating a cohesive and captivating musical experience. The album has further solidified their place in Nepal’s music scene and beyond.

Phosphenes were honored as Best New Artist of 2022 by Hits FM Music Awards and continue to expand their reach, with over 99,000 Spotify listeners and 50,000 YouTube subscribers. They aim to make music that resonates globally, always exploring and experimenting with new sounds.

Band Members:
Abhi Pokhrel: Abhi is the singer, songwriter, and producer for Phosphenes. He started his musical journey in 2014 and played a key role in producing their debut EP. He has composed many of the band’s popular songs and also produces for other artists.

Prajwal Aryal: Prajwal is the singer-songwriter for the band, known for his poetic lyrics. His work spans various genres, reflecting his desire to explore and experiment with different musical styles. He is currently working on a solo project that delves into sci-fi and neo-psychedelic music.
